Academic Requirements

Admission to the Master of Data Analytics (MDA) program requires the successful completion of a four-year bachelor’s degree in computer science, statistics, or a related field* from a recognized university, with a minimum average of 75% (B), or the Canadian equivalent for international applicants. The admission average is calculated based on the final two years of study.

Applicants are expected to have completed significant quantitative coursework in Mathematics, Probability, Statistics, and Computer Programming, with a minimum grade of 75% (B) in these subjects.

*Applicants with degrees in related disciplines such as Actuarial Science, Financial Modelling, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or Software Engineering may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Required Application Documents

To be considered for admission, applicants must submit:

  • Official post-secondary transcripts from all institutions attended, including a copy of the diploma
  • English language proficiency test results (if applicable)
  • CV/Resume

Additional Application Requirements

Following the initial academic review, selected applicants will be required to complete:

  • An MDA Prerequisite Requirements Summary Form
  • A technical assessment and video interview
  • A Statement of Purpose (maximum five hundred words) outlining why they would be a strong fit for the MDA program at Western University
  • References (One academic and one professional reference, or two academic references)

Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission or progression to the next stage of the application process, including the video interview. Admission requirements and processes are subject to change without notice.
