Meal Plan
All Western International College students are required to have a meal plan during the fall and winter terms. This will give you access to eight dining halls and a variety of campus eateries to suit a range of dietary needs. So you can focus on your studies, not groceries.
Residence meal plans are not available in the summer (May–August) as residence dining halls are closed. Not to worry, your suite includes a full kitchen and select campus eateries remain open throughout the season.
Student Supports and Community
Starting university is a big transition and Residence is here to support you through it.

Full-time Residence Life Coordinators and upper-year Student Leaders live alongside you, ready to help you settle in and connect you to the right resources. Free, confidential counselling is available exclusively for residence students, and front desk staff in every building are on hand for everyday needs. At residence, you’re not just finding a place to live — you’re joining a community.
Residence Fees and Details
Western International College students will live in Ontario Hall during the fall (September to December) and winter (January to April) terms, and London Hall for the summer (May to August). Frequently Asked Questions
If you meet residence eligibility criteria and have received your academic offer, you’re guaranteed a residence spot. Transfer and late‑offer students are welcome to apply but may be placed on a waiting list.
Roommates are matched using your Residence Placement Questionnaire which captures lifestyle preferences such as study habits and tidiness. You may also request a roommate; requests are given priority when both students follow the roommate request process.
Yes! You can request one roommate and in hybrid- or suite‑style buildings, suitemate requests can be made once building placement is confirmed. All requests must meet established criteria to be processed.
Upper-year students can apply through the myHousing Portal. Single rooms are guaranteed, with limited spaces available on a first-come, first-served basis. Alumni House and London Hall are popular choices for their independent living experience.
Upper-year and graduate students may also explore Western Apartments. Married students or those with families are not eligible for residence and are encouraged to contact Platt’s Lane Estates. Looking off campus? Western’s Off-Campus Housing website is the go-to resource for students searing for housing in the London community.
Check out our Move-In Planning Guide for a full list of what to bring, and not to bring, on move-in day.
Your residence fee balance and charges are available in your Statement of Account in the myHousing Portal.
PREPAYMENT: A $900 prepayment is required to secure your room. Pay by Visa or Mastercard (credit or debit) directly through the myHousing Portal at the end of your Residence Placement Questionnaire (RPQ). This must be submitted by your prepayment deadline and will be applied toward your total residence balance.
RESIDENCE FEES: For all subsequent residence payments, including any additional fees, charges and fines incurred during your stay, choose one of the three options below. Note that payments may take several business days to reach the Housing Office and all students are encouraged to make payments well in advance to ensure receipt by deadline.
Option 1: CIBC International Student Pay (if you don’t have a Canadian bank account)
CIBC International Student Pay is a secure, cost-effective way to pay from outside Canada. Access the CIBC portal through Western’s Student Center and payments will be applied to your Housing account. Contact CIBC 24/7 multilingual support for any payment inquiries.
Option 2: Convera – GlobalPay for Students (If you don’t have a Canadian bank account)
Visit Convera – GlobalPay for Students to generate a quote (valid for 72 hours).
- Select ‘Apartments’ as the payment option, so funds are directed to Housing.
- Print the payment confirmation from the final page and bring it to your bank to complete the transfer.
For payment inquiries, contact Convera.
Option 3: Online Banking (if you have a Canadian bank account)
Login to your Canadian bank account and pay as you would a regular bill. Search for ‘Western’ and select ‘Western Univ – Apartments’ as the payee. Enter your nine-digit student number as the account number.
If you cancel your residence before the first instalment deadline date, half of your residence prepayment ($450) will be refunded. After this deadline, the full prepayment ($900) is non‑refundable. If you cancel after your scheduled move‑in day, you will be charged prorated residence fees, including meal plan overhead and the Capital Improvement Fee, for the period the room was held for you.
Students whose study permits are denied may request a waiver of the cancellation fee by providing an official denial letter to housing@uwo.ca. All cancellations must be submitted through the myHousing Portal.
If you wish to withdraw from residence, you will need to submit a withdrawal request through the myHousing Portal prior to your planned move‑out date. You will also review and sign a Residence Withdrawal Form at the front desk on the day of your actual move-out from residence. For your withdrawal to be processed, all belongings must be removed from the residence space. Withdrawals are not processed or accepted during the final month of your residence contract.
Academic Withdrawal — Students who have withdrawn academically for the current term
If you withdraw or are required to withdraw from residence and you withdraw academically from Western International College for any reason, you will be responsible for your room and meal plan charges (including meal plan overhead and Capital Improvement Fee) incurred up until the time of your withdrawal and check out from residence. A $900 withdrawal fee will be assessed, not as a penalty, but to cover the costs of processing the withdrawal.
Non‑Academic Withdrawal — Students who withdraw from residence, but remain a Western International College student (includes practicum and academic internships)
If you withdraw from residence but remain a Western International College student, you will be held financially responsible for your full residence fee (including meal plan overhead and Capital Improvement Fee).
A residence deferral is for students who have been approved to defer their academic studies and plan to attend in a future term.
To do so, you must first request and receive approval from Western International College to defer your academic studies. Once approved, you can submit a residence deferral request through the myHousing Portal and email proof of your academic deferral to housing@uwo.ca. All residence deferrals are confirmed in coordination with Western International College.
Students who defer are required to submit a new residence application and prepayment for the new term they plan to attend.
If your academic deferral approval cannot be confirmed, your request may be processed as a residence cancellation and standard cancellation terms will apply.
