Advanced Graduate Pathway

Advanced Graduate Pathway (AGP) Pathway A– (5 terms)

This pathway offers the opportunity to upgrade English Language proficiency, complete pre-requisite requirements and build confidence in preparation for a graduate academic workload. In the first term, students will complete one upper-level undergraduate course alongside the preparatory learning modules. In the second term, students will complete four upper-level undergraduate courses to be well prepared for the graduate level courses in the following three terms.

Students in the AGP Pathway A will complete two terms of study at WesternIC and upon successfully meeting all progression requirements will complete the remaining three terms for the MEng degree at the Faculty of Engineering.

Students will complete the necessary five pre-requisite credit-bearing undergraduate level courses alongside key learning modules to build essential skills for success in a competitive cohort throughout their professional master’s program at Western.

The first term of AGP Pathway A is comprised of:

  • One upper-level undergraduate course from the following list (0.5 credit):
    • Scripting Languages (SE 2202 or equivalent)
    • Algorithms and Data Structures (SE2205 or equivalent)
    • Software Design (SE2203 or equivalent)
    • Networking: Principles, Protocols, and Architecture (ECE4436 or equivalent)
    • Database Management Systems (SE3309 or equivalent)
  • Additional Learning Activity:
    • WELC English Boost + Quantitative Language Module
  • Category 1 Learning Modules:
    • Academic Literacy in Context: Business & Technical Writing
    • Collaborative Product Realization Lab
  • Category 2 Learning Modules:
    • Communication Skills: Practical and Intercultural Issues
    • Collaborative Work Environments

The second term of the AGP Pathway A is comprised of:

  • Four remaining upper-level undergraduate courses (2.0 credits)
  • Category 2 Learning Module:
    • Networking Readiness Program

Program Progression Requirements

You will progress to term three upon successful completion of the AGP Pathway at WesternIC if you meet the following requirements:

  • A completion of all your academic courses in Term 1 and Term 2 with a cumulative average of 70% or higher.
  • A completion of all Learning Modules with:
    • Minimum grade of 70% English Boost + Quantitative Language Module
    • Minimum grade of 70% in Category 1 Learning Modules
    • Passing Grade in Category 2 Learning Modules

Advanced Graduate Program (AGP) Pathway B– (5 terms)

This pathway offers the opportunity to enhance academic readiness, complete pre-requisite requirements and build confidence in preparation for a graduate academic workload. In the first term, students will complete two upper-level undergraduate courses alongside the preparatory learning modules. In the second term students will complete three upper-level undergraduate courses and one graduate-level course, which will result in an accelerated start of their graduate-level courses with 10% of coursework already completed.

Students in AGP Pathway B will complete two terms of study at WesternIC and upon successfully meeting all progression requirements will complete the remaining three terms for the MEng degree at the Faculty of Engineering.

Students will complete the necessary five pre-requisite credit-bearing undergraduate level courses alongside key learning modules to build essential skills for success in a competitive cohort throughout their professional master’s program at Western.

  • Two upper-level undergraduate courses from the following list (1.0 credit):
    • Scripting Languages (SE 2202 or equivalent)
    • Algorithms and Data Structures (SE2205 or equivalent)

    • Networking: Principles, Protocols, and Architecture (ECE4436 or equivalent)
    • Database Management Systems (SE3309 or equivalent)

  • Category 2 Learning Module:
    • Communication Skills: Practical and Intercultural Issues

The second term of AGP Pathway B is comprised of:

  • Three remaining upper-level undergraduate courses (1.5 credits)
  • One of the following graduate-level courses (0.5 credit)
    • EngSci 9110 – Mathematical Methods in Engineering
    • EngSci 9210 – Engineering Statistics and Reliability
    • EngSci 9310 – Programming for Engineers
    • EngSci 9320 – Introduction to Machine Learning
    • EngSci 9410 – Engineering Materials
  • Category 2 Learning Module:
    • Networking Readiness Program

Program Progression Requirements

You will progress to term three with 0.5 credit (one course) toward your degree upon successful completion of the AGP Pathway B at WesternIC if you meet the following requirements:

  • A completion of all your academic courses in Term 1 and Term 2 with a cumulative average of 70% or higher.
  • A completion of all Learning Modules with:
    • Minimum grade of 70% in Category 1 Learning Modules
    • Passing Grade in Category 2 Learning Modules
